Dr Potter, affiliates in South Africa?
Hi Dr P,
I have 3 daughters and will like to do GS for a little boy. I am in South Africa. GS is illegal here. I am wondering if anyone knows any IVF clinic willing to do GS here in SA? I have consulted with a clinic here already but once they realised I wanted GS, they backed out and offered Sperm sorting instead (meh ).
Do you have an affiliate clinic here in SA that you work with that can do pretesting, stimming and retrieval and maybe the embryos can be sent to the US for testing and ET can be done locally?
My major problem is affordability. The exchange rate between the dollar and the rand is crippling! The flights fares alone is equal to the cost of a full IVF here!
Also, what is the average cost of IVF with PGD in your clinic?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you everyone!

We do work with international patients all the time and finding a clinic to work with us for pretesting, etc should not be an issue. My recommendation to get the best results would be to complete a fresh cycle here in the U.S. You would start your medications in SA and then come here for retrieval, PGD, and a fresh transfer. You can certainly do retrieval in SA and ship the embryos over, in which case I would recommend that you come here for transfer so we can thaw the embryos test and do a transfer without having to re-freeze the embryos and reship. But in most cases the shipping of embryos is very expensive and you are better off just doing a cycle here. Hope this helps.
