Horrible Name resulting from Gender Disappointment

Okay, I just heard a story which I think is the worst example I have heard of disappointed parents who didn't get their desired gender.

The parents wanted a boy and they were going to name him Andrew. When their daughter was born, they decided to name her Werdna, which is Andrew backwards. Talk about making it very clear to your child that they weren't what their parents wanted. And making it a daily reminder that their little girl wasn't what they wanted. Werdna is an unusual name, and I am sure that lots of people would ask about it, which means that this woman went through her whole life explaining that her parents wanted a boy and when she was born they just named her Andrew backwards.

Obviously, I have a desired gender, and I really hope I get my little girl.. But if I don't, I'm not going to punish my son with a daily reminder that he isn't the daughter I always wanted. That just seems ridiculous to me.

I guess 'beauty is in the eyes of the beholder ' but I agree, werdna is pretty horrible for a little girl! Almost as bad as Verucca (From Charlie and the chocolate factory by Roald Dahl). Maybe she can change it to wonda or something when she's older.
I guess there are quite a few female equivalents of male names (simon/ Simone, Eric/ Erica, Henry/ Henrietta , Albert/ Alberta etc etc) but I don't really understand why they didn't choose something like Andrea then nickname her Andy?
