    time to conceive

hello girls, I noticed the women who take more time to conceive they are more often female daughters. I was curious to know if there is a link. My dh 1 came to the third attempt, while dh2 was the first. what are your experiences?

My DS1 was a one hit wonder. My DS2 was 3 mo. I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks prior to conceiving him. I learned about swaying before my DS3. I was my undoing that brought him to us. Long story short, I had swaycession 2015. I micromanaged everything and was obsessed with swaying (Poor Atomic! It’s amazing we are still friends !). I conceived him after 8mo and 9 cycles. With my DD, I conceived her after 1 year and 8 cycles.

    Good luck to you!

Most of swaying is based on the theory/research that shows lower fertility/poorer maternal condition = more girls and higher fertility/better maternal condition = more boys, but I think it's a lot more complicated than the time it takes you to conceive. I know lots of women who had girls after getting pregnant quickly, or who were not even trying, and women who took a long time to conceive and had boys.

I conceived both my boys on the first month, but I was very fertile AND had pretty "boy friendly" lifestyles at the time. Especially with DS1 - I basically was doing a classic "boy sway".

I do think that is a strong trend but I don't yet have the data to back it up. This is one of those things that I'd love to study if I had an army of grad students at my disposal and a million $ or two.

we do see plenty of people who get girls the first month out too, it's just the overall trend points in this direction. Of the people who for no other apparent reason take 6+ or more to fall pregnant seem to have more girls (even blue swayers)

*raises hand* I was swaying blue, and it took us 13 months to conceive my daughter naturally (we were going to start clomid and I found out I was pregnant the night before picking up my prescription) and I live a very blue friendly lifestyle, and HE diet. We tried for a year to have a second, and once again very blue lifestyle and two failed clomid cycles. We are gearing up to ttc again after taking a break for my new job. I'll let you know how long it takes. Would love either, but we are trying for a boy.

There is one Dutch study that said the longer it took to conceive, the more boys were conceived. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1315646/

I conceived my daughter first month trying and the longest I've ever taken to conceive was two months, but statistically it's likely there were both boys and girls in that mix.

ETA: Anecdotally, only 1 of the people I know who were diagnosed with infertiliy in my life had a girl. Everyone else had boys -- and for many of them (an in law, my therapist, a few friends, etc.) took more than 2 years. Others were the standard one year.

Before I knew anything about swaying or that having certain genders wasn’t just 50/50 I always noticed with friends who tried really long to conceive had girls (over a year ) I remember thinking as soon as I heard some one had fertility problems that it would be a girl for sure. And now if we were to really dumb it down knowing what we know, I’d say that’s still the case unless the fertility issues are pcos related. Then I’ve noticed boys. But this is just a really black and white approach, and simple way of looking at it. Just a general rule of thumb in my friends group.
