What might be the reason that I am not getting success?

    Hello Dr carole,

Hope you are doing well & I am sorry for the long post.

    An Intro:

I am 30 & Husband is 35, we have a 6 yr old healthy daughter who was conceived very easily.

2 yrs back we started this HT journey in the hope of having a Son.

I was 28 & DH was 33 when we started this journey)

    My First cycle:

    Antagonist protocol > 16 eggs retrieved > 10 mature > 8 fertilized > 5 Prob PGD > 4 normal buys & 3 normal girls.

We transferred 2 boys which was an early blast & a compacting morular. Other two boys did not make it to blast so we did not freeze.

End result: Chemical pregnancy (Beta did not go more than 15)

    My second cycle:

    Long Lupron Protocol > 11 eggs retrieved > 9 mature >6 fertilized > 4 sent to PGD for 2 prob > 2 boys.

We transferred both & ended in a Negative pregnancy test.

    My Third cycle:

Estrogen priming cycle > 16 eggs retrieved > 8 mature > 8 fertilized> 4 embys made it blast on day 5 & 2 embys made it blast on day 6 we freeze all embys > GSN results > 2 normal boys & 3 normal girls.

On FET Day boys did not make the thaw so No transfer was made. RE also thawed the girls & they did not thaw aswell.

So My RE told I would not be able to conceive naturally or via IVF by myself & I should be using Donor Eggs to achieve pregnancy.

The very next month, I had a surprise pregnancy & now I am 17 weeks pregnant with a baby girl & all the test results came back normal & the baby is healthy.

I want to try again around 2014 for PGD. But not sure if I still have a chance. Do u think I can still conceive a baby boy from my own eggs. Is there something (mine & my DH combination) is stopping us from a conceiving a baby boy.

Any advice would be really helpful.
    Thanks

    Dear Lucky 3,
In two years, you will be 32 which is still considered young by IVF standards (under 35) so I think you could do another cycle with your own eggs based on your age alone. Next time, I might consider trying another IVF clinic. I am somewhat urprised that your embryos didn't make it to blast routinely (you had good fert) and the failure to survive thaw is also more atypical. Find a program that does all day 5 culture with at least a 50% (or better) pregnancy rate in your age group. Also check out their frozen embryo transfer rate. If they have a good cryo program, their frozen preg rate should be just somewhat less than their fresh rate. Many programs are increasingly reporting equal rates with fresh and frozen embryos s they become more comfortable with vitrification. I would avoid programs that are still using slow freezing protocols. If I understand your history, your girl embryos did not perform any better than the boys so I wouldn't think that boys are less likely to survive simply because they are boys. regarding your 2nd question, I don't think routine semen analysis is particularly useful for understanding why embryos don't progress. Good Luck, Carole

    Thanks Carole,

I have tried 3 different clinics. for my 3 cycles.

The third cycle clinic did use vitrification for freezing process. But still no luck with the thawing.

Also i am in chicago area. Can you suggest me any center which you are comfortable with?

    Hi Lucky 3,

I really can't endorse a particular clinic, except to point you to the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technologies website or www.cdc.org website which record annual success rates for every clinic in the US. Here's a post on how to use the websites. You can also interview a specific clinic regarding the number of PGS cycles they do and their in-clinic success rates just with these cycles.
