Chia & flax seed....
Just wondered if these were okay included in the pink diet? I know they are high on fibre but wondered if they were almost too nutritious for the girly diet? I don't consume large amounts I stick one or the other in a juice or smoothie. TIA x

I'd worry about the omega 3 content as atomic is recommending higher omega 6 intake for pink sways. Omega 3s are generally very nutritious and anti-inflammatory. If you figure being sick, ie having a ramped up immune respone sways pink then promoting inflammation, a non-specific immune response by upping your omega 6 intake would have a similar impact. Please know that chronic inflammation is a prime candidate for the root of all evil in modern medicine. Only cut out the richest plant and animal sources of omega 3 during your sway. Once you have a BFP in hand start taking an omega 3 supplement high in DHA and EPA to replete diminished stores and add back in your yummy seeds and low mercury wild fish and pastured meat, eggs, and dairy if you aren't vegetarian.

I'd definitely avoid flax bc of the omega 3 fats which sway blue. Chia or chia bran in moderation is probably okay. I have a little sometimes.
My Ovulation Chart currently TTC, Cycle #16 since last BFP
TTC #1 - swaying pink on & off since Nov 2013 - hoping for a girl first but excited for either!
Dec 2001 - May 2006 : 5 early abortions of healthy singletons (3 medical @5w, 2 surgical @8w, last 4 pregnancies conceived with late DH, all conceived while TTA/on birth control)
Mar 2012: miscarried B/G twins @5w (conceived 2 cycles after remověng Paraguard copper IUD while NTNP), one twin was ovarian ectopic
Me: 34, widowed, late O + short LP, normal-good hormone levels excepting undetectable testosterone, seeking a known sperm donor/life partner
My sway: vegetarian LE for over 28w, skipping breakfast, fibre (ground psyllium husks) with/before/between meals, physically inactive, drama avoidance, ocassional minimal YesBaby lube as needed, alternate cycles on low dose Clomid, double shot lattes (with meals)
Past sway tactics I've dropped (in order): Vitex, Sudafed, antihistamines, intermittent fasting, one attempt per cycle at positive OPK, one attempt in fertile period

I would use no more than 1-2 times a week with the chia and avoid flax as I do not believe it's safe when TTC and especially it is not safe when pregnant. Please no one use flax in anything more than occasional amounts when preggo.

As much Omega 6 as people are eating in their SAD having a little extra for a few weeks/months while swaying is about the least of people's worries.
No one should use flaxseed when pregnant. It is not safe (and this is one of those things that is confirmed, not just a rumor)
Everyone should take DHA when pregnant, I put that into every sway plan I make.
No one should eat any fish more than 2x a week when pg just to be on the safe side.!!! Questions?? Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!

Atomic, why is flax bad for TTC/pg ladies? Not that I consume it myself (fish oil esp DHA being so superior), just wondering.
zillers, I agree with you about too many omega 6 fats being unhealthy, however, I very much believe that's why they sway pink, and I think just reducing omega 3 fats is much less effective than also increasing/replacing them with omega 6 fats. A lifetime eating a SAD is certainly a recipe for many health problems, but swaying pink for several months or even a couple years will not permanently damage your body or health. I FIRMLY believe that once you return to a well balanced, nutrient rich diet all will be well. And I speak as someone who grew up eating an extremely healthy organic diet, has always been health/nutrition/food obsessed, and has a professional and academic background in biology and chemistry.
There's also quite a bit of evidence suggesting that mild to moderate toxin exposure, especially when brief and temporary, can have health benefits by keeping the body's toxin response/removal processes on its toes. I.e. if your diet/environment exposure is TOO perfect, your body becomes out of shape and operates less optimally when eventually, inevitably exposed to toxins. Obviously it's a delicate balance and I don't believe omega 6 consumption has been specifically studied in this regard, but I personally think it is likely that increased omega 6 fats & the LE diet overall can have such a positive stimulating effect on the body.

Flaxseed may feminize male fetuses, can cause premature birth, and as a strong blood thinner is like aspirin and should be avoided during pregnancy. It also has components that can actually block the absorption of nutrients and (liek green tea) may make it harder for your body to use folate in pregnancy, possibly causing birth defects.
