How is it possible to confuse gender at 31 weeks if tech seen descended testies?

So title says it all. I had an ultrasound at 31 weeks, told tech it was boy at 19 werk scan so he wanted to double check. Looked for a while saying it could be scrotum then said testes had descended into the scrotum but he still wasnt convinced!! Kept lookong for the penis saying it was tricky at this stage but if at 19 weks was told boy hed go with that. Really how could it be 'tricky' if he seen descended testicles? Is it even possible to.mistake that?

Everything is so swollen and squished. It's difficult to see when the baby is so large.

My SIL had the same experience. After lots of shuffle the penis was visable. It seemed that the penis lay on his tummy. And then scrotum can look like swollen labia.

Yes there is a "golden time" where the genitals are big enough to see clearly and yet the baby is not ginormous yet and that is the time it's the most reliable to have gender ultrasounds.

Thank u for ur replies. I can see how it could be confused if the testicles have not descended but he said testes were in the scrotum but still wasnt positive as penis was hidden. I guess I just dont see how it could be anything but 100% if testes were seen?

That sounds a bit odd to me. I work in the medical field and know that a baby boy's testicles don't descend until after the baby is born. It can take up to 9 months after birth for them to descend.

Descent of the testes most boy babies do have their testicles descended at birth but not all do. Girls' testicles are of course the ovaries and stay put on the inside.

I think the tech just wanted to see a peeper in order to say 100% that's a little dude cooking. Point is, 31 weeks is a hard time to see gender because the bigger the baby gets, the more squished together the goods are. if you were told boy at 19 weeks, and the tech saw testicles in this scan, I would paint the nursery blue.

Im certain its a boy, 3 ultrasound cant be wrong, I was just really curious why he was reluctant to confirm unless descended testies could be mistaken which I wouldnt think possible
