    Mum3blue, sorry just saw this.

I'm currently doing a drug free tracking cycle through a fertility clinic.

I found out about this after I asked a friend how she had her little girl after 3 boys.

To do the tracking cycle I had to get a referral from my GP to the fertility clinic. Then my husband and I had to meet with a fertility specialist to get the ball rolling and then undergo a full blood test and ultrasound.

My friend was required to see a counsellor before commencing, though I didn't have to. They asked her stuff like will you love the baby if it's a boy, how would you feel if you had a girl and she was gay - Seriously!

This is my third cycle in 4 months. My first cycle I didn't fall pregnant. The next I did, but miscarried at 4.5 weeks. I'm currently in my 2ww.

I have around 5-6 blood tests a cycle and an internal scan just before ovulation to see how many follicles are ready to pop.

This has been such an awakening for me as I have never known my cycle too well as I have a lot of mid cycle bleeding.

The fertility centre's method seems to support the Shettles method of bd a couple of days before ovulation.

Happy to answer your questions if you're interested in this.

Thank you for your response. Apart from the BD Shettles method - is there any other way that this sways? It seems the major benefit of this method is knowing exactly when you ovulate - which would be good for me as my cycles vary each month in length. I would be interested to know how your friend thinks this method helped with her girl.

Also, if I go to the GP for a referral I am not sure why I would be asking for a referral to a fertility clinic - if you know what I mean.

My cycles are the same - all over the show! My first tracking cycle through the fertility clinic was a real eye-opener as I had a BT on my 2nd day of bleeding only to be told my progesterone was too high and I in fact, wasn't having my period. My 11 day periods that I've had all my life are actually 5-6 days long and I just experience bleeding before my period starts! So all my 'home tracking' was so far off the mark!

With this method I know the exact day I ovulate.

My friend believes she had a girl because she fell pregnant the first cycle only to mc at 10 weeks. She had a d&c and found out the sex of the baby - a girl. Next time, she did the tracking on her own and fell pregnant. She again mc at 10 weeks - d&c revealed it was a boy. She went back to the fertility clinic who gave her drugs once she fell pregnant again to help the pregnancy stick. This pregnancy gave her her very healthy, gorgeous baby girl.

So, two pregnancies through the clinic and its method resulted in girls. When she did it her way she fell pregnant with her 4th boy.

I don't understand your question about the referral!? I went to the clinic as it's where my friend went.

Sorry about the confusion on the referral - I meant the referral from the GP. How did you position it with the GP? Did you have a discussion with the clinic about gender preference? I am going to give them a call today.

I know exactly how you're feeling! I was soooo nervous about asking my doctor! Luckily, and definitely wrong on his behalf, he didn't question it. All I said is I'd like a referral to [name your preferred clinic] and he started typing! All the referral said was "for fertility management". I had a big spiel and some tears ready but they weren't needed. I'd suggest shopping around if your GP isn't helpful.

Seeing the specialist was a different story as I had to bare all! The worst part was our appt was mid week and as my husband and I both had to go, so did our two boys! Nothing worse than being in a fertility clinic with 2 kids you had no problem conceiving and you're there because you want to have a girl! That was the worst of it. The Dr we saw wasn't that great - I felt like an idiot - but the goal of having a girl outweighed his attitude. Plus, my gf saw a different dr who was completely lovely! He unfortunately was booked out for 3 months, that's why I chose to see the grumpy one! Just remember it's not gender selection it's just tracking! No intervention just exact timing! On my file it says "tracking for a girl" and it's discussed openly whenever I'm there having a scan or on the phone with the nurses. If you go to your local blood collection place - they'll ask a lot of questions - they're so nosy - Especially when you take your boys with you. I tell a little fib now, as I've had 2 mc in 3 years, I just say they need to check my levels so they're perfect for conception and to maintain the pregnancy... Which I guess is true!?!

Let me know how you go!!! 💗💗

I haven't really answered your question have I?

I would say you've done some research and found out that fertility clinics offer a service of tracking cycles to up the chances of conceiving a girl, and as you have 3 boys, you want to speak to a specialist to explore your options.

Thank you sooooo sooooo much ... I guess that was my hidden question - did you openly tell them that you were there to try for girl ... I have left a message for the Fertility Clinic to speak to them about it ... fingers crossed.

    Try the "family balance" angle!

The clinic I told you about used to do gender selection until it was banned but it does offer PGD overseas. My point is, they're on board to help families achieve family balance so don't feel scared to ask.

At the end of the day, they're a business and you're offering them money.

I would just go to my GP and say you have been TTC for over 12 months and your cycles are all over the place. Say you have been temping, charting and using a fertility monitor and you would like to move on to the next step. Say you have a friend who has used that clinic and can you be referred there. Some Dr's are opposed to family balancing.
