View Full Version : Does it matter when you drink beverages?

Maybe this is a dumb question, but it just occurred to me that I may be messing up my sway by drinking beverages in between meals. I drink coffee with Splenda + fiber and half and half (couldn't get used to it with skim) in the morning, and I usually have a mug of peppermint tea (also with Splenda) mid-afternoon and in the evening. I sometimes have a Coke Zero (is that okay? I hear lots of talk about Diet Coke but I like the taste of Coke Zero better) in the afternoon, and occasionally I'll have a Crystal Light, although I find it to be kinda gross. I also drink several glasses of water throughout the day. Am I keeping my blood sugar up by drinking between meals? I really don't know if what I am drinking even raises blood sugar. Should I try to only drink beverages at mealtimes? Thanks!

Sorry I don't have an answer for you but I think it is a great question and one I have also been wondering about. Will be interested to hear what other ladies say.

hey
i would say and i may be wrong you need to be careful with drinks if they are real sugar, whole milk, alchol or juice. So if you have an apple juice and a latte with sugar and whole milk whilst the kids are having breaky i would say you have increased you blood sugar levels as there's a fair amount of sugar in both of these.
Diet drinks if the sweetner is girl friendly (atomic has made a list in the bit where all the essays are saved, but anything aspeteme based is safe) don't effect your blood sugar levels.
I think coke zero might be less good i think it's based on natural sweetners which may sway boy and in fact a lot of the diet drinks in the uk now seem to be - after all the stuff about asparteme (i can't spell!) and cancer. so worth checking the label against atomic's list to be sure
splenda is fine if it's the orginal one
Juice, alchol I would try and have with meals as there's a lot of natural sugars in those.
water won't effect your blood sugars.
hope that helps...this does start to take over your life!

If you do a search at the top of here i did an xact same thread not so log ago - there are aswers in there but basically if you can drink diet pop in between meals thats fine but any full sugar drinks etc should be limited to having with meals. I drink diet cok ad crystal light between meals and that is fine.

Thanks, Mum23boys! That was very helpful. Especially since Atomic said it was okay to have coffee with cream and artificial sweetener. :)
And I think Coke Zero is okay -I did a little research on it last night, and the artificial sweeteners are on Atomic's girl-friendly list. The only difference between Diet Coke and Coke Zero is that Diet Coke is based on a whole different syrup recipe (the same as New Coke if you remember that, but New Coke had sugar.) Coke Zero is the same syrup recipe as regular coke but with aspartame and acesulfame k (which both got the thumbs-up from Atomic).

Coffee raises blood sugar but then it crashes afterwards. Coffee is fine in the mornings and many, many of the girl moms and successful pink swayers report coffee first thing in the morning and then nothing else until lunch.
Artificially sweetened stuff like diet drinks does not raise blood sugar and is perfect to have between meals.
Everything you're doing is pefectly fine. :agree:
