Services offered

Our therapists are trained to help clients with the following issues:

Whatever issues you’re dealing with, therapy can help you gain a better understanding of yourself by exploring your inner world in ways that you haven’t yet; it can provide coping strategies to manage your challenges; it can help to clarify and identify the underlying causes of those difficulties, and it can help facilitate changes you are looking to make in your life.

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Childhood trauma/PTSD
  • Grief and loss
  • Anger management
  • Relationship problems
  • Workplace issues
  • Perfectionism
  • ADHD
  • Addictions
  • Parenting
  • Post-partum challenges
  • Life transitions
  • Stress and Burnout
  • Family issues

The duration of therapy may be short-term by focusing on immediate issues and/or long-term if the focus is on more complex problems. The number of sessions and the frequency of appointments depends on the persons’ situation and is a collaborative process between the client and the therapist.

Although relationships are comprised of individuals with their own beliefs, values, and habits, relationships are dynamic living systems. Even the most insightful and caring individuals can slip into patterns of interaction that are difficult and hurtful. Understanding the patterns that affect your relationship can help you to work together as a team and liberate you from power struggles and blame.

There could be a multitude of factors in a relationship that erode the emotional connection partners once shared.  Issues may include: infidelity, sexual challenges, disagreements over parenting or careers, problems with extended family, addiction, unresolved past issues, differences in values, problems communicating, stress around division of labour, life transitions, and many others.

Underlying all of these issues are partners who are upset that their needs for validation, affection, and approval are being ignored or dismissed. The result is disconnection from the person we depend on most for acceptance and closeness. We feel alone and wonder if we should even stay together or we shut down and try to numb ourselves from the pain disconnection causes.

Couples seeking counselling will learn to:

  • identify reactions that contribute to conflict and disconnection
  • understand underlying emotions that drive each other’s responses
  • improve communication, and be attuned and responsive to each other
  • ask in a vulnerable, non-blaming way for needs to be met
  • experience each other as a source of safety and security
  • deepen emotional connection and intimacy

The goal of couples counselling is to create an environment where both partners feel safe enough to explore what is happening in the relationship, reach a clearer and deeper understanding of one another, and ultimately improve communication, rebuild connection, and develop skills for maintaining a relationship based on mutual respect.

Therapies Offered

Internal Family Systems Therapy

Internal Family Systems therapy sees you as a family of inner parts, some hurting, some protecting. IFS is a gentle approach that helps you heal past wounds, access parts of yourself and bring harmony and peace to your inner world.

Somatic Therapy

Somatic Therapy helps you develop inner resources to regulate your emotions and move out of the fight/flight/freeze response. It helps to release emotions such as anger and sadness that remain in a person’s body from past negative experiences.

Eye Movement Desensitization Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization Therapy is a trauma-based therapy. Encourages you to focus on a specific trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation, which is used to help reprocess traumatic memories and reduce the emotions and physical sensations.

Cognitive- Behaviour Therapy

Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy can help you better understand your negative and unhealthy thought patterns, maladaptive behaviours and unhelpful ways of coping. This approach to therapy can also shed light on why you find yourself repeating these often self-sabotaging cycles and patterns.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy is helpful for people who struggle with intense emotions and harmful coping mechanisms. DBT teaches skills such as mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness and emotion regulation. You will learn to accept your experiences while making positive changes.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy emphasizes that it is counterproductive to try to control painful emotions as it causes more distress. ACT will help you learn to accept your internal experiences without judgment, while taking mindful action towards values and goals.
